WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Milwaukee Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is proud to receive Tree Campus Healthcare recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its efforts in promoting tree planting, education and engagement in 2024.

To earn Tree Campus recognition, organizations are required to build and implement a plan to meet five program standards throughout the year: maintaining an advisory committee to guide the program, establishing a facility tree care plan, facilitating or participating in a community forestry project, sponsoring at least one celebration event or awareness campaign that highlights the connection between trees, nature and human health, and making an annual financial investment in tree projects, education events and community outreach—both on and off-campus.

In 2024, MRMC met each of the Tree Campus standards, including the following efforts:
  • Significantly contributing to expanding green spaces by partnering with Milwaukee County Parks for its third consecutive year to plant over 40 trees and shrubs in County Grounds Park, extending Sanctuary Woods;
  • Donating $2,500 to support Milwaukee County Parks’ tree planting efforts as well as installing protective fencing for 240 trees and shrubs, ensuring their survival against wildlife and harsh weather conditions; and
  • Hosting an Earth Day/Arbor Day event on the MRMC campus through the Medical College of Wisconsin's Center for Sustainability, Health and the Environment, including:
    • Organizing a successful recycling drive, collecting batteries, plastics and aluminum can tabs for donation to the Ronald McDonald House;
    • Distributing 300 tree seedlings provided by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to staff and students; and
    • Arranging a program where speakers emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability and the Center's role in promoting community health.
Through these diverse initiatives, MRMC demonstrates a deep commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being, solidifying its role as a leader in healthcare that prioritizes the interconnectedness of human and ecological health. MRMC’s Tree Campus Healthcare recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation underscores the campus’s dedication to ensuring the best possible environment for promoting health, healing and learning.
