Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Recognized as a 2025 Tree Campus by the Arbor Day Foundation
WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Milwaukee Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is proud to receive Tree Campus Healthcare recognition by the
Arbor Day Foundation for the second consecutive year. MRMC was recognized for its commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and community engagement.
As a 2025 Tree Campus, MRMC has successfully met five program standards throughout the year: maintaining an advisory committee to guide the program; establishing a facility tree care plan; facilitating or participating in a community forestry project; sponsoring at least one celebration event or awareness campaign that highlights the connection between trees, nature, and human health; and making an annual financial investment in tree projects, education events, and community outreach—both on and off-campus. Meeting these standards contributes to a greener and healthier campus, which is enjoyed by employees, visitors, and neighbors alike.
To achieve these standards in 2025, MRMC implemented the following efforts:
- Significantly contributing to expanding green spaces by partnering with Milwaukee County Parks for its fourth consecutive year. Two dozen volunteers planted 29 trees and shrubs in County Grounds Park north of the Ronald McDonald House. Additionally, MRMC members planted more than 550 new trees on campus in 2025.
- Donating $1,500 to support Milwaukee County Parks’ tree planting efforts as well as installing protective fencing for existing trees and shrubs, ensuring their survival against wildlife and harsh weather conditions
- Hosting an Earth Day/Arbor Day event on the MRMC campus through the Medical College of Wisconsin's Center for Sustainability, Health and the Environment, featuring:
- Community speakers from Milwaukee Riverkeeper, Urban Ecology Center, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and Compost Crusaders
- Members of MCW and the MRMC community contributed dozens of seedlings to swap and recycled hundreds of batteries, plastic bags, and soda can tabs
Through these diverse initiatives, MRMC continues its multi-year commitment to creating and maintaining a sustainable campus that understands and prioritizes the interconnectedness of human and ecological health. MRMC is honored by its 2025 Tree Campus recognition and remains dedicated to cultivating the best possible environment for health, healing, and learning.
